General Questions

What's the difference between the Apple original Samsung, Nanya, Hynix and Hypervelocity modules?
HyperVelocity modules offer virtually the exact high performance as the factory original components. Our HV modules are the latest, cool running design American made modules. Both come with our full lifetime warranty. The Samsungs (and sometimes Nanya and Hynix) of course are the exact same part number as Apple uses for those who only want factory exact equipment.
How much RAM can I put in my model?
Please check the individual page for your machine's specifics.
Can you explain the different speed ratings and how it affects my machine?
Sure, Current Apple's at this time pretty much use two different types of RAM. DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 in the modern models and PC66, 100, 133 in the older ones. The PC RAM such as PC133 means it is capable of running at ALL memory bus speeds, up to and including 133MHz. Therefore if your machine requires PC100 RAM, you can install PC100 or even PC133 since the PC133 can effortlessly run at 100MHz bus speeds as well. DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM runs at double the bus speed, so, if your memory bus speed is 167MHz then you will need to run DDR333 (or faster) RAM since this design runs at double the 167MHz bus speed (in this example). Faster RAM can be like putting Premium gasoline in your car the requires Regular...provided the other relevant specifications are properly matched as well.
Can I mix different size or speed RAM in my machine?
Most modern Macs allow most mixing. The notable exception being the G5 PowerMacs, Mac Pros and some Macbooks. These machines require the memory modules be installed in pairs, one module to be installed in each of it's 2 memory banks simultaneously. As for mixing speeds, you can never install modules with a slower speed than your memory bus is rated. Faster (correctly specified) RAM however will give you no problems.
Are there any warranty concerns installing non-Apple RAM?
First of all, there is NO such thing as Apple RAM. Apple buys their RAM from various manufacturers such as Samsung, Micron, etc. and they are classified as "User Installable" parts. Anyone can "carefully" install their own RAM with ease and without any warranty concerns. Scroll to the bottom of each model section on our pages to find the specific installation link for your model.
What happens if I order from Mac RAM Direct and have a problem?
Of course, while we work very hard for "zero" issues, reality puts us at about a 99% success rate. Most problems, when they occur, fall into 3 areas. First, the number one problem we see (especially in the portable machines) is simply the modules not being fully inserted and locked in their slots. Please double, triple check this. Second, it is possible the incorrect module may have been shipped to you which could be our error or the customer's. Third, is mishandling. The modules are VERY fragile and VERY susceptible to damage from static electricity. Discharge yourself prior to handling and handle ONLY by the edges and NEVER touch the gold pins. No matter what the problem, just contact our customer support and we will get your shipment corrected or replaced ASAP!
What warranty does Mac RAM Direct offer?
We offer a full lifetime (original owner) replacement warranty. If any MRD module ever fails it will be replaced free of charge. Please check our warranty page if you'd like more details.
Do you buy back old RAM?
We're sorry but we do not buy or sell or deal in any way with used RAM. Everything Mac RAM Direct offers is brand new, factory fresh RAM.
Do you offer discounts or terms to large schools or institutions?
Yes! We supply some of the country's largest universities, corporate and government institutions. Drop us a line, tell us your needs and we'll work very hard to get you what you need at an excellent price, quickly and efficiently.

Payment, Ordering and Shipping

What types of payments do you accept?
Fully 90+% of our orders are credit card purchases made through the MRD website. This is the fastest and most efficient method of ordering. Most credit cards are accepted through our Paypal web processor. We also are happy to accept checks and money orders. Please email us ahead. Large institutions that require purchase orders may also be serviced once we've been contacted
Can I get a refund?
Yes, we offer a full refund for all orders within the first 30 days for any defective products if a replacement is not desired. Full lifetime replacement for all modules beyond 30 days.
What type of shipping in the US do you offer?
We offer 3 types of shipping within the US. Standard Ground, 2 Day Air and Next Day Air. Orders on in stock items received by 2 p.m ship out the same day and automated tracking info is emailed at that time.
Does my shipping address need to match my credit card billing address?
Generally "Yes", however there can be exceptions. Small orders or confirmed company addresses offer few problems. Very high value orders requesting they be shipped to an unconfirmable location will be harshly scrutinized and often rejected due to security concerns. This can be especially true for shipments outside the US. Please contact in advance if you think there may be a problem.
Do you ship outside the US?
Yes. In fact there is an ever increasing international market for our products. We offer both, fully insured Express international shipping as well as UNInsured Standard international shipping. Express international shipments generally take between 3 and 5 days depending on your country. Standard international (Uninsured) shipments usually take between 5 and 10 days but can take longer and NO tracking info is available for these Standard shipments.
